I grew up in Crail so it is a very special place to me. I have lots of beautiful memories of going to the beach, pulling creels on the boat & helping in my family’s pottery. Three years ago I moved back to Crail from Edinburgh and married my husband Hamish. We couldn’t be happier and it only felt right that we got married in our local village.
I have always had my eye on Crail Community Hall since I was a wee girl. My mum actually used to take me to mothers & toddlers at the hall so it has a lot of sentimental importance to me. As well as this we loved the versatility of the space and the way we could make it our own. The big dance floor and stage were a huge plus point as we wanted dancing to be a big part of our day!
Tell us about your wedding day!
We had an incredible day and I wish we could do it all again! We had 120 guests which felt like a great number. It was fantastic being able to set up the day before. We had quite a big set up so this was extremely helpful for us and suppliers! We used a few different locations in Crail which helped keep the energy high on the day.
We actually had our ceremony at The Legion Hall just down the road. This worked really well as it meant there was no change over required for our reception at CCH, everything was ready for us when we arrived!
Hamish and I lead the procession of our 120 guests through the wee streets of Crail to our garden for the drinks reception (we are lucky that we live just next door to the community hall!). After some lovely drinks in the garden, everyone was led to the front steps of Crail Community Hall where we did our confetti. This was a really fun moment that I'll never forget! Speeches, dinner & dancing followed in the hall.
Dinner was a Mediterranean style buffet which was served in the smaller hall. Having this space for serving food worked really well and made things a lot easier for our caterer (Rituals & Roots). Our caterer commented on how good the kitchen facilities were to use. Our party was definitely the highlight for me! We had my brother’s funk band play on the stage and a DJ set up on the floor. The dance floor was fantastic and we danced all night!
Who else was involved in making your day so special?
Everyone involved in our day was incredible and we are so grateful. Here are a few shout outs! Firstly Mademoiselle Weddings (Savannah) who was our coordinator on the day. Savannah was so good at keeping everything right. With the DIY nature of the venue I would recommend having a wedding coordinator to take the stress off you. Our florist Fruit Salad Flowers was wonderful! Emily created the flowers of our dreams and was so fun & flexible to work with.
My brother Tim, who is a potter at Crail Pottery made all of the pots for our tables & flowers. It was magic to have my brother’s pots included in the day. Peace In The Neighbourhood did our decor including stunning silver streamers & backdrop (the hall has great hooks for hanging lights & decor). Charlotte Kinsella was our photographer and captured the day so perfectly. Rituals & Roots cooked up the most delicious buffet that all of our guests loved!!
My brother’s band Bohemian Monk Machine got the party started & our DJ friend Jacuzzi General followed with the most heavenly set! My husband is from Cornwall so we had Lavenders Conrish pasties shipped from Penzance for our evening food. These went down a treat with our guests. Finally big shout out to our friend Elise for making the most amazing wedding cake! We had lots of help on the day from our friends and family which we are so thankful for.

Any favourite photo moments in and around the hall?
We had photos taken in the Victoria Gardens just over the road from the hall. The flowers & plants in the garden are lovely at all times of year. We got a few fun photos in the skate park too! Crail has so many beautiful spots for photos. I regret not getting some taken down at the harbour so try and remember to fit that in if you can!
Would you recommend Crail Community Hall to other couples?
Definitely! The hall is unique and has fantastic facilities for you & your suppliers. It is also absolutely beautiful! For us, it was important that Crail Community Partnership who run the hall is not for profit and that our fee went towards the good of the community. I would definitely recommend making the most of Crail itself with all the photos spots and make sure to book accommodation early as Crail gets very booked up in the summer months.
